2-Post Car Lifts for Home Garages and Professional Shops

A 2 post car lift raises a vehicle by its frame on four swing arms, leaving the wheels hanging free and the entire undercarriage open for brake, suspension, exhaust and drivetrain work. That access, combined with a small footprint, makes the two-post lift the most popular car lift for both busy repair shops and serious home garages. Car Lift Direct carries 2-post lifts from Atlas, AMGO, Triumph, Katool, Titan, Tuxedo, Daytona and iDEAL, from 8,000 lb home-garage models up to 20,000 lb heavy-duty truck lifts.

How to Choose the Right 2-Post Lift

  • Lifting capacity: 9,000–10,000 lb lifts handle most cars, SUVs and half-ton pickups. Choose 12,000 lb or more for 3/4-ton and 1-ton trucks, vans and fleet vehicles. Heavy-duty models go up to 20,000 lb; see all heavy-duty 2-post lifts.
  • Clear floor vs. baseplate: Clear-floor (overhead) lifts run the hydraulic lines and cables overhead, leaving the floor between the posts open for rolling jacks and oil drains. Baseplate (floor plate) lifts run them across a low plate on the floor, so they need less ceiling height. That makes them a good fit for low-ceiling garages.
  • Symmetric vs. asymmetric: Symmetric lifts center the vehicle between the posts, which suits long-wheelbase trucks. Asymmetric lifts set the vehicle farther back, so doors open more easily. Many lifts are "bi-symmetric" and can be set up either way.
  • Ceiling height and bay size: Check the overall height and width on each product page against your garage. For lower ceilings, see our low-ceiling 2-post lifts, like the Daytona LTPF9 and Triumph NT-9, or the Triumph C7000 portable 2-post lift.
  • ALI certification: ALI certified lifts are third-party tested to the ANSI/ALI ALCTV safety standard. Many commercial shops and insurers look for that label.

2-Post Car Lift FAQs

How much does a 2 post car lift cost?

2-post lifts on our site currently range from about $1,900 to $12,800. Most 9,000–10,000 lb home-garage and light-shop models fall between about $1,900 and $5,000. Higher-capacity, ALI certified and heavy-duty truck lifts cost more. Financing is available through Approve and Shop Pay. Buying multiple lifts for a commercial shop, dealership or fleet? What ceiling height do I need for a 2-post lift?

It depends on the lift style and how high you want to raise the vehicle. Clear-floor (overhead) lifts have a crossbar at the top, so they usually need a taller ceiling, often 12 feet or more. Baseplate and low-ceiling models are shorter and fit many standard garages. Always compare the lift's overall height, listed on each product page, with your ceiling and garage door opener.

How thick does my concrete need to be?

Most 9,000–10,000 lb 2-post lifts call for at least 4" of 3,000 PSI concrete with no cracks or seams where the posts are anchored. Higher-capacity lifts often need thicker or stronger concrete. Check the installation manual for the exact requirement before you order.

What's the difference between clear floor and baseplate 2-post lifts?

Clear-floor lifts route the equalizer cables and hydraulic hoses overhead, leaving the floor between the posts completely open. Baseplate lifts route them across a low steel plate on the floor, so they don't need an overhead beam. That makes baseplate lifts the usual choice for lower ceilings.

Should I buy a symmetric or asymmetric 2-post lift?

Asymmetric lifts are popular for cars and home garages because the vehicle sits farther back and the doors open more easily. Symmetric lifts balance the load evenly between the posts, which is better for long trucks and vans. Bi-symmetric lifts can be set up either way.

Can I install a 2 post lift in my home garage?

Yes, as long as your garage has enough ceiling height, bay width and solid concrete. Many customers choose a 9,000–10,000 lb lift for their home garage. A low-ceiling or baseplate model can fit garages with lower ceilings; see our low-ceiling 2-post lifts.

What power does a 2-post lift need?

Most 2-post lifts use a 220V single-phase hydraulic power unit, and some models are available with 110V power. The required voltage is listed on each product page.

Should I get a 2-post or a 4-post lift?

Choose a 2-post lift if you mainly do repairs that need the wheels free, like brakes, suspension and tires. Choose a 4-post lift if you mainly want vehicle storage, oil changes or drive-on convenience.
